River Inn Riverside, Washington, DC, is a perfect place to stay when you are visiting this big city. It looks small from the front, but it’s a decent size on the inside. The ambiance is excellent and boasts a welcoming and helpful staff.

My daughter’s music school booked an event at the Kennedy Center. My daughter’s performance at that event is how we ended up staying at the River Inn. I am grateful that the promoters chose to stay here as the kind and friendly person at the front desk was able to save my ass for not paying attention to the instruction that we needed to stay here two nights. Because of that, I had to change the itinerary of our trip.

I asked them if they would allow us to stay the night we missed on the next weekday on our way back from Virginia to Pennsylvania. I am fortunate the River Inn personnel allowed that.

Our First Night

We arrived on the day of my daughter’s event, and we only had one hour to rest and prepare before we needed to head to Kennedy Center. I was glad that River Inn is within walking distance to the venue.

The area is an older and safe neighborhood and it’s nearby to everything. We had to hold our son’s hand to make sure he didn’t run into the highway. The event took so long to finish that we were walking back to the Inn at almost 11:00 pm. Because of this experience, I can attest that the area is safe for you to walk at night if you happen to attend some party or will be late in going back to your hotel.

Our Room

We had a regular room with one king bed. Our two kids slept with us, and my mother slept on the queen-size pull-out couch. The bed was comfortable.

The room is a decent size. You can move around freely. I didn’t feel like we were in a tight cubicle. The bathroom is somewhat small, but it has everything you need. I loved the bathroom mirror — it is slick and modern. If you need a hair dryer, the hotel has one available. It is hanging right at the bathroom door.

We had a kitchen and a table and chair that we used as a work station. It can also be used as a place for you to eat inside if you need to. The kitchen is equipped with all the utensils that you need for cooking basic things: a refrigerator, coffee maker, burner, pots, and pans.

Our Second Time Here

We arrived at around 7:20 pm and were greeted by the friendly and kind staff. On our check-in, the front desk proceeded to tell us that they were able to upgrade our room to a double room suite room without an extra charge.

We were delighted. Our smiles are up to our ears. I don’t know what made them upgrade our stay since it was our mistake for not arriving on the first night but we’re grateful that they did it.

Our sole reason for staying here this time was to fulfill our obligation to spend two nights at the River Inn. We were all tired after a long day having fun in Virginia Beach plus our four-hour drive to DC.

Our Double Suite Room

The room is similar to the regular room, except way roomier. We got two double beds instead of one queen bed. The living area is larger and still equipped with a pull-out queen bed sofa.

The Suite Room is equipped with a dining table with four chairs plus a separate working table space as is in the regular room.

If your reason for staying at the River Inn Riverside is to attend an event at the Kennedy Center or somewhere else nearby, I wanted to let you know the room is equipped with an ironing board and iron. I find a bonus because most hotels don’t provide this unless if you are staying in a suite room in a five-star hotel.

Check-Out

Checking-out in this hotel is a breeze — give the card back to them.

Parking

Both times we were in D. C. we arrived later in the afternoon or in the night time, and we were able to park nearby the hotel without charge. During the weekend, there is no problem with parking as it is free, but on weekdays it can be tricky. We moved our car before the three-hour limit, so as not to pay anything. That worked for us as we were inside our hotel room and didn’t go anywhere.

The hotel can park your car for you for $25 for a day. That way, you don’t need to be bothered by your car getting towed or have to get back to the place where you parked your vehicle by a particular time.

There is ample parking near the attractions, but you have to put $2 in the meter for an hour and the maximum parking time is 3 hours.

Note:

  • I brought my mother, who is a senior citizen with us, and the River Inn didn’t charge me for an extra person.
  • The Inn provides two water bottles daily.
  • The room has chamomile and other teas and coffee if you want to have some.
  • The hotel is within walking distance to a lot of major attractions in Washington, DC.
  • For the best money value, River Inn Riverside is the right place to stay. You can save your left-over food and put it in the refrigerator and heat it the next day. Bam! It saves you $$.
  • Both regular rooms and suite rooms have an ironing board and iron provided.

Summary:

I have read several of your posts, but this is the 1st photo that I see you with blonde hair. I typically stay as far outside DC as possible (near the Shady Grove subway station) as I hate the traffic in the city.

Yes, I think it can fit one more as the pull-out couch is a queen-size. It’s comfortable to sleep with.

Hmm, we’ll have to check it out next time we do a weekend or over night trip to DC. We live in southern VA but sometimes you just don’t feel like driving back 4 hours after a long day of walking around DC. Thanks for the recommendation!

So cute. I love the sitting area. Was it tight with the whole family or was there enough space?

It’s enough space the queen sofa bed can fit two for the regular room. So it can be 6 total people. For the Suite room, it is really huge. The kids can sleep with the queen sofa bed with an adult and can add up with another two adults if it’s possible but of course the hotel will charge more for that.
